Mānuka Honey™ from NZ
(alternatively, Maanuka Honey™ from NZ)

  Background
Would you invest in a complex moving machine and then clamber on board, knowing that other people, many you don't even know and are not necessarily on your side, have control of ALL the "levers"?  "I wouldn't go there" is the response we anticipate!

The above is a characterisation of the Manuka Honey industry in NZ. It has no exclusive use of its name nor control of any of the relevant domain names (collectively, "the levers").

Any global business is hard enough without others being able to cause havoc with a product's reputation, messaging and "brand"!

A change of strategic direction is essential for survival of this industry!

  Introducing "Mānuka Honey™"
Today's communications with "the market" are predominately via the Internet, either on websites or social media.  That is why all the world's major domain name extensions for "maanukahoney" (the non-accented characterisation of mānukahoney) end up here or at another site relevant to the Mānuka Honey™ story. This is part of our proposal for its adoption as the industry name and as a product authentication mark.

Adding to the elegance of our "Mānuka Honey™" or "Maanuka Honey™" proposal is that Maanuka is the non-accented Māori spelling of the word more often characterised as "Manuka". The alternative Māori spelling is "Mānuka", with a macron on the "ā", synonymous with "aa". And adding to the elegance of this re-characterisation of the product name is that the macron can be used in some domain names, including .co.nz, .com and .net!

Product authentication mark

Part of the solution being proposed is a tamper-proof labelling system.  It would entail every label being numbered consecutively with that number embedded in a QR code.  There would also be a randomly generated 7 digit check code.  Going to the website would verify what that check code should be, thereby confirming authenticity. [See link to demo below.]

Provenance and other information about the product would also be accessible from here, including a link to the supplier's website.
